The biggest challenges were quirks in the original plan and how to rework things to make the house more comfortable, confesses Brown.

For example, the fireplace on the main level faced the kitchen sitting room and felt misaligned with the architecture of the room, and the large living hall had no central focus for seating, so we made the decision to redesign the kitchen as well as to change the opening of the fireplace from the kitchen to the living hall.
